Michael Forloney is an artist, designer and fabricator located in Santa Fe, NM, focused primarily on local custom metal furniture and pieces for select architectural projects in New Mexico and nationwide since 2004. 
     Mike was born in, and grew up outside of Providence, RI; and developed his appreciation for fine art and craftsmanship while studying for his BFA at Parsons School of Design in NY, NY.  After school, he was fortunate to find work as a shipping clerk/fabricator for an artisan decoupage company in the city for a couple of years and reinforced his desire to build a career in high quality functional art products over work intended to only be seen in a gallery. 

     It would not be until Mike left the east coast and started working as a structural weldor did he find his passion and livelihood in steel fabrication.  He soon set up a small welding studio in Madrid, NM and built everything from belt buckles, gates, custom cabinets and hardware for commission or consignment; to rebuilding truck beds and frames, as well as tractor parts on occasion. 

     In addition to being to being an all around small town weldor, Mike also designed and did machine work for a local solar powered well water pump company in Santa Fe for close to 10 years and really learned the importance of critical attention to detail and precision measurements, as well as experience in efficiently building limited production lines.

     The combination of his past in art and experience in fabrication and machining really informed Mike's transition to modernist type construction  He would open his furniture and design business in 2010, embracing minimalist aesthetics, favoring geometric shapes, stripped down and clean lines and forms over highly embellished and overly decorated pieces.

     Since then, Mike has relocated his shop to Santa Fe and has been busy collaborating with private clients and collectors, as well as some of the city's top decorators to produce high quality work that is featured in many fine home in and around northern NM, and also some pieces in CO, TX, and California.

     Mike has also contributed his artwork to some public spaces, including building a steel armillary that is part of a memorial monument that pays homage to fallen Portuguese/American soldiers at the RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI; and pieces that were used in installations for the Texas State Fair and Citizens Field in Philadelphia, PA. 
     He has also designed and created several store signs for local businesses, and architectural details for some well known shops around Santa Fe.

     Mike continues to work with old and new clients to produce one of a kind art pieces that best suite the project at hand.
